Semiconductor sales are on track to increase 7% in 2020 following a strong performance in the second and third quarters. This is an impressive feat in the midst of a global pandemic and a global recession. Much of the gains in 2020 have been driven by higher ASPs, which are expected to jump more than 6% from a year ago. Meanwhile, semiconductor unit volumes in 2020 are projected to increase only 1% from a year ago.

Capital Expenditures are on track to jump 8% in 2020 followed by a 6% increase in 2021. China is set to surge 80% in 2020 as they try to expand their manufacturing footprint to become more self-reliant.

The number of pins-per-package increased nearly 5% in 2020. The continuing drive towards higher densities, functionality, and bandwidths on chips is increasing the need for more I/Os, hence the increasing number of pins-per-package.
