2018 Semiconductor Market on Track to Grow 16%, according to VLSIresearch
August IC sales grew 13% Y/Y, as reported by VLSIresearch in itís latest TCI Graphics update. That leaves the semiconductor market on track to hit its forecast of 16% growth over 2017. VLSIís forecast for a flat 2019 remained unchanged. IC inventories, while at record levels, remain at healthy levels compared to sales and the expected sales rush into the holidays. August Electronics shipments recorded 9% growth to demonstrate this. Wafer fab utilization remained extremely high in August, with silicon wafer production achieving a new record as capacity crossed the Billion MSI bar for the first time in history.
