Semiconductor Slump Passed as Industry Emerges into new Upturn
The semiconductor sales status was upgraded to “in Upturn” as reported by VLSIresearch in the July 27, 2016 edition of Semiconductor Analytics. This follows on a report by VLSI that the balance of IC Demand and Supply had moved from saturated in the first quarter to a balanced state in the 2Q16. Conditions have been steadily improving across the board in Memory, Foundry, IDM, SoC, and IoT markets with demand out of China being particularly hot with smartphone penetration on the rise. In the latest weekly VLSIresearch’s Nowcast, semiconductors sales flashed growth of 4% for the third quarter of 2016 over a year ago. Weekly semiconductor sales growth over the prior year formed a positive channel in April, when VLSI reported that the semiconductor slump had bottomed.
