Semiconductor sales kicked off 2021 in classic recovery. Sales were 20% above 2020 for the 1st week of the year. The IC weather warmed 3°F to Sunny, as the normal arctic holiday chill faded. IC Highlights: Focusing on the Auto IC picture this week,13-week MAs show how buyer cuts, due to COVID, drove a 1H20 crash in Auto. When demand returned due to the consumer migration from cities to the suburbs, IC demand surged. This led to a shortage as Foundries, OSATs, & laminate suppliers had retasked capacity to other IC markets.
IC Wafer Production rose 12% y/y in the first week of 2021 on an IC sales gain of 20%. It's been strongly positive since mid-October. The Supply/Demand status tightened back up in the first week of January with the post-holiday visibility brightening. Foundry and OSAT jumped. Analog & Power improved as well. DRAM, NAND, and IDM remained in Tight to Shortage conditions.
