Semiconductor sales turned up last week. Quarterly revisions showed much stronger growth at close to 30% higher than the same week last year. VLSI's 2021 forecast was raised to +20% from February's +13%. Focusing on the Logic market this week, the 13-week MA is at 15% y/y growth. This segment is flying high compared to both 2020 and 2019, with growth solidly double digit. Last week Auto ICs ran the fastest overall, followed by DRAM, Analog & Power, Logic, and NAND.
The IC weather stayed Hot and IC Wafer Fab Production levels continued to soar to address chip shortages. It is now more than 30% above 1Q20 levels in 300mm semiconductor wafer equivalents-per-week.
VLSI added Auto ICs to its Supply/Demand status. It exited from a Balanced status over the holidays and jumped 2 levels to Shortage conditions in the first full week and has held tight ever since. Last week, IDM and Analog & Power jumped to Shortage levels. DRAM and Foundry also jumped.
