Order activity for semiconductor equipment surged nearly four points in the third week of January, hitting a hot 87 degrees
All segments recorded strong gains led by SOC Mobile and Computing.
Demand for semiconductor equipment remains robust as chipmakers grapple with tight capacity and IC shortages.
There were some notable changes made to the forecasts in January
Equipment forecast for 2021 has been upgraded from 6% to 12% due to stronger than expected demand
The semiconductor forecast has also been upgraded from 8% to 11%
Electronics sales forecast remained unchanged at 6%.
VLSI's Chip Price Performance Index turned hot
DRAM surged
NAND flat
MPUs rose
IC inventories are improving
