    Semiconductor Equipment Weather Report: November 18 2020

    • Order activity for semiconductor equipment jumped nearly two points, hitting a warm 82 degrees
    • All segments edged higher with Memory and DAO recording the biggest gains
    • Despite COVID-19 related uncertainties, chipmakers and equipment suppliers are ending the year on a strong footing and are feeling more optimistic about their prospects in 2021
    • There were some big positive changes made to the forecasts in November, following a stronger than expected 3Q20 for chipmakers and electronics OEMs
      • The IC forecast was upgraded to +8% from +7%
      • Electronics was upgraded from -3.5% to +1%
      • The equipment forecast for 2020 also saw a sizable upgrade, going from +10% to +16% due to a stronger than expected outlook for Q4
      • Equipment sales in Q4 are now projected to increase 1% sequentially compared to an 8% drop previously
    • VLSI's Chip Price Performance Index fell at a moderate rate
      • DRAM dropped
      • NAND declined
      • MPUs declined
    • IC Inventories remain elevated, but they're not as high as feared
