Semiconductor Equipment Weather Report: August 31, 2020
    Andrea Lati
    Moving ahead with caution
    • Order activity for semiconductor equipment edged lower for the fourth consecutive week, slipping below 79 degrees
    • Despite the recent pullback, overall temperatures remain at comfortable levels, though caution abounds across the board
    • Up in the food chain, electronics demand got a nice boost from a strong Back-to-School period, following a better-than-expected Q2 that was driven primarily by work-at-home-economy
    • This should help alleviate some of the buildup in inventories
      • The latter has become a source of concern, especially for memory manufacturers, prompting some of them to lower their outlook in the coming quarters
    • VLSI's Chip Price Performance Index jumped higher
      • DRAM surged
      • NAND declined
      • MPUs rose
    • IC inventories are rising
    Moving ahead with caution
