It's still warm and green out there, but most choose to be wary
    • Order activity for semiconductor equipment jumped for the second consecutive week, hitting a warm 81 degrees
    • The recent uptick in the weather has been driven by improving trends in DAO, Adv. Packaging & Subcon, and Memory segments
    • After hitting a soft patch early in the summer, memory demand appears to be picking up again driven by mobile and server demand
    • Part of the improvement is likely driven by an inventory buildup in China, which is being embargoed on both ICs and equipment
    • Access to China has become a big issue—even bigger than COVID-19—for equipment and chip manufacturers, hampering their outlook for 2021
    • The September data from the Taiwanese manufacturers was strong, highlighting a robust business environment across many segments
    • VLSI's Chip Price Performance Index jumped higher
      • DRAM increased
      • NAND flat
      • MPUs rose
    • Semiconductor inventories remain at elevated levels
It's still warm and green out there, but most choose to be wary
